I knock Greenie out of the Norman Knight darts championship which is quite a feat of giant killing.

Laz gets invited to a pyjama party in Reading and drags me along. I get to dance with a couple of girls in nighties but nothing else.

Mandy is back from being off sick and his back with her David (worse luck) and is wearing white tights (ugh!)

Laz leaves for Cyprus in two weeks. Rob D is down from Sheffield and me him and Laz go to Jackie H from work's 18th party at Scours Lane. I introduce Laz to Mandy and she asks if he likes the neckless which is the surprise present we haven't given to him yet. Dumb bird.
Leave the party at half nine and have a few at the Knight (Laz cries) then go to Mr and Mrs F's for Laz's going away party.
Laz, Bones, Perce and me take turns dancing with Den and her mate Sue whilst Rob gets off with Karen Watkins.
Get to bed at four.

Tony at work has told Mandy he loves Jackie and want's her advice on what to do. Mandy asks me what she should tell him. I can't help thinking, How the fuck should I know?!

Friday is a sad night. Laz leaves for Cyprus on Saturday morning so we have beers at the Knight then go to Perces for coffee and we get sentimental. Bones, Perce and me have shared early teens, adolescence and early manhood with Laz and now he's off and we may never see him again.

On Saturday lunchtime Laz calls to tell us he had a safe flight and will see us all again very soon. Ten minutes later he arrives in the Knight with a stupid grin on his face.

An argument erupts at work over whether they should have spent £4 million on raising the Mary Rose.
John S says it's a valuable link with our heritage and a remarkable achievement to raise something so old and decrepid. Dave remarks that John's missus has the same problem at bedtime.

Laz is now in Cyprus and Bones in Newbury and Rob in Sheffield so it's just Perce and me left. We go to the Plough where we fing Wellsie and Phil from school. Wellsie fits double glazing and Phil is s civil servant.

Tony at work has taken Jackie to Brighton for the weekend. Jackie says she really likes him because he kept buying her things. Surely there's more to it than that.

Playing darts at the Knight on Thursday with Perce, Strud, Hammy and Kath. The phone rings and Drover answers and then tells us all to shut up. He says Bones's dad has had a brain haemorrhage and is in the John Radcliffe with a 50/50 chance of living.
Wally dies at midnight.

Perce and me take Bones for a few beers in town and have a right good laugh and cheer him up. On the way back to his house he has a good cry and then we go and offer Mrs F our condolances.
"What do you say, what do you do Curly?" Says Mrs F with a shrug.
We stay for a few beers and do the Mirror c rossword and when Perce stands up Sue says she'll drive him. Perce says no thanks, he's only going to the bog. |
