Beware Of Gift Horses That Look Like Tanks.......

Continuing the magical mystery tour that is the past month as I dimly recall it, we have now reached Saturday the 9th of September and day two of our Menorcan idyll. After a very pleasant flight in the tail end of a plane chartered by First choice holidays we had landed at Mahon Airport around 7pm local time on Friday the 8th and were pleased to see that our apartment was clean and in good order before grabbing a quick meal at a favourite local restaurant and retiring early. Saturday dawned bright and clear and after a traditional holiday breakfast of ham and tomato on toast we drove off  in the hire car to do some shopping at the large SYP supermarket in Ciutadella, the second largest town in Menorca, which is conveniently situated a couple of miles along the coast from our apartment. Those nice people at Avis had kindly upgraded our hire car to an Opel Zaffira which looks and drives a little like an armoured truck but with much less visibility or agility. It's hard enough driving anti clockwise on roundabouts without the added problem of windscreen pillars that obliterate thirty percent of your vision. You will gather from this that I was not exactly impressed with the Vauxhall/Opel Zaffira, in fact I am surprised that they manage to actually sell any of these ugly myopic lard arsed lumps of metal and plastic at all.

Later this day we drove to Cala Blanca which is about two a half miles due South of Ciutadella where we went to a restaurant that hugs one side of the bay and ate mushroom omelette and chips as we watched the sun descend not so slowly into the Med. After a leisurely drive back to our apartment we sauntered round to the bar that services our small complex and were delighted to see some old friends and original fellow members of the owners association which was formed some twenty years ago and which with the help of volunteer committee members oversees the running of our small complex.

My human contact on this first whole day in Menorca included some old and very amiable acquaintances as I savoured the prospect of long sunny days to come. My deed was to assist in the purchase and transportation of the supermarket bounty.
